Clay Lakes in Northern France

Welcome to Clay Lakes based in Northern France, two original Cassini forest lakes dating back over three centuries, designed and constructed by the Monks the venue is now visited by anglers from all over Europe to experience this awesome legacy. The lakes 2.7 & 5.6 acres provide a home for a fantastic stocking of Big Carp and also a sanctuary for the abundance of neighbouring wildlife.

Both lakes were heavily stocked with Big French Carp over 12 years ago now and since that time these fish have flourished into matured specimens giving anglers a real treat and a great opportunity to catch a fish of a lifetime. Our current Lake Record stands at 61lb and we certainly expect that to be broken once again in 2020 by our visiting guests.

In the early part of 2018 we introduced a stocking to both lakes for the future generations and to maintain a balance throughout. A beautiful 50lb 9oz Mirror was added to lake 1 and 33 Mirrors and Commons ranging from 20lb to 30lb were shared between the lakes. These fish have quickly adapted and already in one season we’ve seen some excellent weight gain.

Extensive work was carried out mainly on the Lakeside Cabins and swims in the close season of 2018 and the start of the year in 2019. Each Cabin now has its own fully fitted Kitchen and Bathroom giving our guests everything they need to enjoy their holiday whilst at Clay Lakes. This close season 2019 we have already started to renovate all the swims on Lake 2 including steps down into the water for a safe way to return fish and we’ve created more space behind for the anglers plus improvements to the access tracks and pathways. A new stocking is planned before the 2020 season starts for both lakes, some young beautiful fish to arrive at Clay Lakes and you can keep fully up to date with what’s happening on our gallery page.

The 2018 & 2019 seasons have seen some fantastic Carp grace the banks of both lakes, 8 x 50’s+ plus many at 49lb & 39lb. In 2019 we’ve confirmed two new 50’s and a lake record of 61lb and even our resident Koi has gained weight in each of the last two seasons which is great to see.

Exclusive Carp Fishing Lakes

Lake 1 is 2.7 acres and for up to 3 anglers whilst Lake 2 is 5.6 acres and best suited for a maximum of 4 anglers. Both have similar depths ranging from 3 to 5.5ft. The unique colour of the clay water is reflected by the residents, beautiful pastel colours and orange tails are a thing of beauty.

The lakes are full of hidden surprises, which was perfectly exemplified when we drained both down and discovered the intriguing craters in the lakebed and caves in the margins. The original riverbed runs through both lakes, starting at the Dam wall of Lake 1 and finishes at the sleuth of Lake 2.
